Bike Fest 2008

14th September 2008 - 2pm to 5pm

Canal Fields Car Park, Berkhamsted

The 2008 Bike Fest at Canal Fields Car Park, Berkhamsted, took place on the 14th September between 2pm and 5pm. We were blessed with one of the few sunny weekends in an otherwise wet and rainy summer.

The event was targeted at children to guide them on how to start cycling, and also for adults with much information on local cycling routes and facilities.

There were several informal training sessions given by a fully trained instructor from Tring who does a lot of work for local schools. Sessions included riding techniques, how to look after a bike, basic safety, and lots of fun competitions that children of all ages could take part in.

Members of TBCC also took groups of children out on three rides around Berkhamsted. Adults were allowed to join in too!

A competition with a cycling theme was run through the afternoon by The Creche Company, which involved children making a drawing of their favourite place to ride a bike and the lucky winners were awarded gift vouchers as prizes.

Also present were Transition Town Berkhamsted, Steady Eddie Bikes and Bike Knight who was on hand all afternoon for spot repairs and maintenance - all free of charge! Fairtrade refreshments were also available to buy.
