Reporting Hazards & Defects
A hazard that you believe could be a concern to cyclists should be reported to the appropriate organization. Problems riding off-road could well be different from those faced riding on-road but both could include:
- Potholes
- Signage
- Vandalism
- Flytipping
- Poor drainage
- Encroaching or overhanging vegetation
- Fallen trees

Off-road
Most Rights of Way used by cyclists are numbered. Those in the Chilterns are shown on Chiltern Society Footpath Maps. These numbers can be used to identify the location of problems.
In Dacorum: Rights of Way Officer, Clayton Rae on 01442 228356 or clayton.rae@dacorum.gov.uk
In Buckinghamshire: Use Buckinghamshire County Council's online report form that is available on their web site. Alternatively, contact Highways on Call on 0845 2302882, or online at www.buckscc.gov.uk/hoc.
Reporting Via CTC Scheme
Two online tools for reporting defects have been introduced by the CTC. On-road problems can be reported at fillthathole.org.uk and off-road at clearthattrail.org.uk. Using the new systems you can mark the location of the defect and explain it in detail. Once completed, the relevant authority will be automatically notified and they, in turn, have a duty to take action.
