Tring Station

3rd January 2007

According to an article in the Hemel Gazette Silverlink will not be included in the list of operating companies asked to bid for the new franchise to operate trains serving Tring. Reasons why Network Rail has not allowed them to rebid are not known.

Against this background it is unlikely that money will be made available for improvements. However we will continue to press the current Silverlink management for the much needed lavatories, and for easily-installed bicycle wheeling channels on the steps to make it less difficult to get cycles from and onto platforms.

Signing of the cycle route at Tring station has never been correct, and we recently had a meeting at the station with Paul Trustram and Dave Bowman of Herts Highways, who deal with the West Herts Area, to point out that the signs outside the "Royal Hotel" were confusing. The path is not segregated and cyclists should not be asked to dismount at the start of a cycle path as shown in the first picture below.

The next picture shows changes to the signs made as a result of our intervention.

Signing after TCC intervention

We are expecting further changes in the signs to indicate that the cycle path does not continue along the pavement outside Railway Cottages. Unfortunately we have not yet found a safe solution for the dangerous junction of Beggars Lane with Station Road.
